Badrinath is about 320 km from Haridwar, and the hill road takes roughly 10 to 12 hours one way with stops. The route has long climbs, sharp turns and occasional landslide delays, and Badrinath itself sits at about 3,100 metres, where the weather changes fast and nights get very cold. The temple is open from around May to mid-November. May and June are popular with families on school holidays, and September and October are clearer and calmer after the monsoon. July and August see heavy rain and landslides. In 2026 the gates close on 15 November, and from late October the days are cold and nights drop close to or below freezing, so warm clothing is a must. Travelling in the last weeks of the season means thinner crowds, but you should book early because hotel rooms are limited.

Pickup from Haridwar in the morning. Drive via Rishikesh and the Prayags (Devprayag, Rudraprayag) along the Alaknanda river. Check in at Pipalkoti, rest and have dinner. Overnight stay at Pipalkoti.
An early start is important. After breakfast, drive to Badrinath via Joshimath. Take a holy dip at Tapt Kund (the hot spring), then have darshan at the Badrivishal temple and attend the aarti if timing permits. Visit Brahma Kapal, where devotees perform Pind Daan for their ancestors. If time allows, visit Mana Village, which has Vyas Gufa, Ganesh Gufa, Bhim Pul and Charan Paduka, all within a few kilometres of the temple. Drive back to Pipalkoti for dinner and an overnight stay.
Check out after breakfast and drive to Haridwar, stopping at Rudraprayag and Devprayag, and Dhara Devi Temple on the way if time permits. Drop at Haridwar railway station by evening.

Yes, with proper planning. We suggest the 4-day plan, a slower pace, warm clothing and carrying regular medicines. Please tell us in advance if anyone needs special arrangements such as a palki or pony. Badrinath temple itself is close to the road, with a short walk from the parking area.
