Tucked into the rolling hills of Northeast India, Mizoram remains one of the country's most unexplored and genuinely rewarding destinations. The Aizawl Thenzawl tour package by Divya Yatra takes you through the cultural heart of Mizoram — its vibrant capital Aizawl — and down to the serene town of Thenzawl, home to the state's most iconic waterfall and its celebrated handloom tradition. This is offbeat Northeast travel done with care, comfort, and complete permit handling from our end.
This package suits travelers who want to go beyond the mainstream Northeast circuit. If Meghalaya and Sikkim feel overdone and you want genuine cultural immersion, clean hill air, and landscapes that remain largely untouched by commercial tourism, Aizawl and Thenzawl deliver exactly that.
It is particularly well-suited for:
Aizawl sits at over 3,700 feet and is unlike any other Indian city. Church spires punctuate the skyline, local markets offer handwoven textiles and bamboo crafts, and the surrounding valleys roll out in every direction. The city has a rhythm that is unhurried and distinctly Mizo. Key stops include Solomon's Temple, Bara Bazar, the Mizoram State Museum, and Durtlang Hills viewpoints.
Thenzawl is a small, quiet town roughly 91 km from Aizawl via the World Bank Road — a 3.5 to 4-hour scenic drive through layered green hills. The main draw is Vantawng Falls, the highest waterfall in Mizoram at approximately 229 metres, surrounded entirely by dense bamboo forest. Thenzawl is also known for its Handloom and Handicraft Centre where you can watch Mizo weavers at work and pick up authentic shawls and textiles.
No trip through this route is complete without a stop at a traditional Mizo village. These close-knit communities are known for their warmth and hospitality. Village walks offer a glimpse into daily rural life, traditional bamboo architecture, and the values that make Mizoram consistently rank among India's most liveable states.
Mizoram is a protected state. All Indian nationals require an Inner Line Permit to enter. Divya Yatra handles the complete ILP application on your behalf — you simply share the required documents and we process the permit before your travel date. Foreign nationals have a separate permit process which we also assist with.
Aizawl is served by Lengpui Airport, connected to Kolkata and Guwahati. Travelers from Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and other metros typically fly via Kolkata or Guwahati. Road access is available via Silchar (Assam) and Tripura for those combining Mizoram with a longer Northeast circuit. There is no direct rail access to Aizawl — the nearest station is Bairabi.
October to March is the ideal window — cool, clear, and perfect for outdoor sightseeing and waterfall visits. Summers (March to May) are warm but manageable. Monsoon (June to September) brings heavy rainfall that restricts road travel and outdoor access, particularly to Vantawng Falls and village routes. We do not recommend monsoon travel for first-time Mizoram visitors.
The standard Aizawl Thenzawl package runs for 3 nights and 4 days, which comfortably covers both destinations without rushing. This can be extended to 5 or 6 nights if you wish to include nearby destinations such as Reiek Peak, Hmuifang, or Champai. The package is fully customizable — departure city, group size, accommodation type, and travel dates are all flexible.
Divya Yatra has been running Northeast India tours for years with a strong on-ground network across Mizoram, Meghalaya, Manipur, and Nagaland. For the Aizawl Thenzawl route specifically, we offer:

Thenzawl is around 91 km from Aizawl, a scenic drive of 3.5 to 4 hours via the World Bank Road.
Absolutely. Mizoram is one of India's safest travel destinations, known for low crime, high literacy, and warm hospitality. The package is designed to be comfortable for all age groups.
Vantawng Falls is Mizoram's highest waterfall — a roughly 229-metre drop through bamboo forest. It is the most photographed natural attraction in the state and the main reason most travelers include Thenzawl in their Mizoram itinerary.
