Aizawl, Mizoram's capital, is the entry point — a hilltop city at over 3,700 feet with panoramic valley views, traditional markets, bamboo craft centres, and the Mizoram State Museum. From Aizawl, the route leads to Thenzawl and Vantawng Falls, the highest waterfall in Mizoram at approximately 229 metres, set inside a deep bamboo valley. Traditional Mizo village visits are a standard part of this leg, offering genuine interaction with close-knit rural communities and insight into a way of life that remains largely unchanged.
Agartala is Tripura's capital and the cultural hub of the tour's second half. The Ujjayanta Palace — now a state museum — stands at the heart of the city alongside the Tripura Sundari Temple and Jagannath Temple. Neermahal, a striking lake palace combining Hindu and Mughal architecture, is roughly 50 km from Agartala and one of Northeast India's most photographed monuments. Unakoti, a UNESCO tentative World Heritage site in north Tripura, contains enormous rock-cut carvings of Shiva and other Hindu deities and is among the most historically significant stops on this entire route.
Mizoram is a protected state and all Indian nationals require an Inner Line Permit to enter. Tripura has no such requirement. Most travelers fly into Aizawl via Lengpui Airport, typically connecting through Kolkata or Guwahati.
